When my son was born, I was struck by how quickly he changed and grew, and always wished for a way to stop time and remember him — just as he was in that moment. I believe the childhood portraits I create do just that. Making art, to me, is to experience the joy of everyday magic. Since I was a child myself, I have marveled that a bunch of marks on paper can create a completely different image in your mind. I believe that when these marks create the likeness of someone we love, this is the most fascinating magic of all.
I received a BA in studio art from Centre College in Danville, KY with an emphasis in 2D art (charcoal drawing and oil painting) in both portrait and figures.
I love working with charcoal the most because it's messy and imprecise and creates such amazing depth. The eraser is just as important as the charcoal and I love the poetry of that. I also think charcoal can suit just about any space and taste and fits with all seasons and styles.
My goal is for you to love everything about the final work, from pose to framing, so I highly value the consultation step. I provide a detailed pricing and design plan for your approval before I ever put charcoal to paper!
